ALEC (American Legislative Exchange Council) is a group of corporations, law firms, and legislators who work secretly to pass legislation on the state and federal level. Many of these bills are written by corporations and then introduced into the state legislatures, but lately they have expanded to also take on gun control and social issues. Due to this, several corporations such as Wal-Mart, McDonalds, Coca Cola, Kraft, and others have dropped out of the organization.
